ZOOM – the Organizer of PowerPoint Slides

If you often use PowerPoint slides in your business presentations, you are certainly familiar with a common problem ‘ what is the best way to find a good slide that you used in the presentation, which you made a year ago. Usually we have to recollect the name of the presentation, where it could be stored, open it in PowerPoint and flip through all slides until you find the one you need.

All this takes a lot of our precious time. Usually all presentations have to be done very quickly. Full-text search among all ppt (pptx) files helps a little bit, but only in case if you’re looking for textual information. But what should we do, if there is an urgent need to find a successful image or a diagram?

Do not worry, a new great application has been created to solve this problem – Zoom – is a simple and very useful application, addressed to all people who have to deal frequently with PowerPoint presentations. The program allows you to organize the orderly presentation of slides and ensures the most efficient management of available materials.

If you install Zoom on your computer, you will get very comfortable space in which all of your presentations can be visually displayed. You can add a new PowerPoint presentation, simply dragging the mouse.

Naturally, this program supports all possible kinds of the search ‘ both by the text of the PowerPoint presentation, as well as by the key words (of course if you were not too lazy to specify them when it was necessary to save your PowerPoint presentation).
But Zoom goes even further – it extends search capabilities, introducing special labels, which allow you to control presentations, similar as messages in Gmail. Using the labels you get a wonderful opportunity to arrange your PowerPoint presentation, for example, by assigning a specific label to the presentations of a particular project.

But most important is that labels can be assigned not only to the presentation in general, but to each of its slide. That is why the storage unit is not a PowerPoint presentation but a slide. This allows you to locate a particular slide very quickly and in a few minutes to collect PowerPoint presentation among appropriate slides on the topic.

The program remembers all the presentations that you have opened during 30 days and you can return to any of them. Some users may be interested in the possibility of exporting to PDF and printing out selected slides.

Since the basic element of storage is the slide, not the presentation, there is a danger that there will be so many slides that it will become difficult to orient in them even with a help of a good organizer. Zoom knows how to deal with this problem. The program automatically determines the “cloned” slides and does not show all duplicates. It can reduce nearly half of your slides.

Unfortunately, the requirements for using Zoom are not modest at all:

  • Microsoft® Windows XP, Microsoft® Windows Vista, Microsoft® Windows 7;
  • Microsoft® PowerPoint 2003, Microsoft® PowerPoint 2007;
  • Hard drive space requirements depend on number of presentations. Zoom uses about 1 MB per presentation for imaging and indexing;
  • 1 GB RAM (2 GB recommended);
  • PC with 1 GHz Pentium® processor;
  • Internet connection necessary to download Zoom install files, access the Zoom Help, and to use Zoom tools like emailing, or feedback;
  • Zoom also depends on Microsoft’s .NET Framework 4.0 which will be downloaded prior to installing Zoom if necessary.
